Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 6, 2026

In short: SwiftDown does not collect, store, or share any personal data. Your documents never leave your Mac.

Data we collect

None. SwiftDown has no user accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services, and it does not send your documents or usage information to us or to any third party.

Your documents

All editing, rendering, code highlighting, math, and diagram generation happen locally on your Mac. The resources needed for these features are bundled inside the app. Your files are only read and written in locations you choose. When you paste or drop an image into a document, SwiftDown copies it into a .assets folder next to that document. The Quick Look and Finder thumbnail extensions render Markdown files locally when Finder asks for a preview.

Data stored on your Mac

To work properly, SwiftDown keeps a small amount of data locally in its sandboxed container. This data never leaves your device:

Deleting the app removes this data.

Network access

SwiftDown makes network requests only to load images that your documents link to on the web (for example, ![](https://example.com/image.png)). These requests go directly from your Mac to the server hosting the image. As with any web request, that server can see your IP address and standard request information. SwiftDown does not send cookies or any document content with these requests. If your documents contain no web images, SwiftDown makes no network requests.

Third-party services

SwiftDown does not include any third-party SDKs that collect data. If you contact us through GitHub, your submission is subject to GitHub's Privacy Statement. Please don't attach documents containing personal or confidential information to issues.

Children's privacy

SwiftDown does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
